Remembering 1984

Manchester series on the Miners' Strike

The Labour History Archive and Study Centre in Manchester have organised a series of talks to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Miners’ Strike 1984-85.

The lectures are open to anybody, whether they have a personal, academic, professional or general interest in the strike.

  • Monday 4 October -- The 1984 Miners’ Strike in Perspective, Professor David Howell from York University.
  • Monday 18 October -- Women and the Miners’ Strike 1984-85, Dr Meg Allen, Salford University.
  • Monday 1 November -- Was Arthur Scargill Right About the Miners’ Strike - 1984-85? Geoffrey Goodman, author and journalist.

The lectures will take place in the Studio, the University of Manchester Department of Government, Dover Street Building (First Floor), Oxford Road, Manchester. The lectures start at 6.30pm and finish at 8.00pm. Admission is free.
