Historians without Borders: The Use and Abuse of History in Conflicts

Historians without Borders in Finland (HWB) was founded on June 17 in Helsinki, at the initiative of Erkki Tuomioja, former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, to further public discussion about history and to promote the use of historical knowledge for peace-building and conflict resolution.

The international conference Historians without Borders: The Use and Abuse of History in Conflicts will be organised in Helsinki on May 19 – 20.

The two-day Conference will begin with a welcome reception on the evening of Wednesday May 18 and it is organised in cooperation with and input from the University of Helsinki, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Finnish Institute of International Affairs.

THE CLOSING PLENARY will discuss and take a decision on the establishment of an International Network of Historians without Borders and on the follow-up for the initiative.

Registration fee: 100 EUR. Participants are requested to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation and cover the costs related to participation.
