CALL FOR PAPERS
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM "JOHN STUART MILL and REVOLUTION" – May, 25-26, 2018 -
UNIVERSITÉ PARIS I – PANTHÉON/SORBONNE
Organisers : Aurélie Knüfer (Université Paul Valéry – Montpellier) ; Ludmilla Lorrain
(Université Paris 1 – Panthéon/Sorbonne).
ARGUMENT
From French Revolution to the Spring of Nations, John Stuart Mill has written extensively on revolutions. In that respect, he is a precious witness of political upheavals of his century. Thus, even if he does not address systematically the idea of revolution, one can find pervasive mentions to the revolutionary phenomenon, from a theoretical and as well from an historical perspective, in texts of various nature and intention. Characteristic of his time, revolution is besides a key element in the constitution of a philosophy of history. However, these texts received very little attention. The main purpose of this conference is to initiate a reflection on the status of revolution in Mill’s thought.

APPEL À COMMUNICATIONS

ARGUMENTAIRE
