The Eighth European Social Science History Conference will be held at Ghent, Belgium, from 13 to 16 April 2010. The ESSHC aims to bring together scholars interested in explaining historical phenomena using interdisciplinary approaches to the study of the past. The conference is characterized by a lively exchange in many small panels with 3-5 speakers each, rather than by formal plenary sessions. It is organized in a large number of networks, among which the World History Network will host 8 panels but looks also for cross-organisation with other networks such as those being related to Area Studies, religion, theory etc.

We invite now the submission of panel proposals consisting of 3-4 papers, a commentator and a chair. It is also possible to submit proposals for individual papers, but priority is given to coherent panel proposals. Therefore we encourage people to arrange with colleagues for a coordinated submission. The aim of the Network is to present most recent developments in the field of World and Global history and to encourage cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural discussions. The deadline for proposals is May 1st 2009.

The Conference fee will be EUR 200 for participants who pay in advance, EUR 250 for participants who pay at the conference. One-day attendance will be EUR 100 for participants who pay in advance, and EUR 125 for participants who pay at the conference. A special (MA) student fee is EUR 50.

The Eighth European Social Science History Conference is organized by the International Institute of Social History. The deadline for abstracts and pre-registration is May 1st, 2009. One copy should be sent to the conference secretariat (address below) and one copy to each of the co-chairs of the network.

Further information and an electronic pre-registration form for the Conference can be obtained from the Conference Internet site at http://www.iisg.nl/esshc or from the conference secretariat.
