Gap in ANC Archives filled by IISH

Announcement, IISH Amsterdam

In the presence of the South African president Jacob Zuma, many other ANC officials and anti-apartheid activists, the archive website of the ANC was launched in Johannesburg on 29 April.

Another feature of this event was the official handing over of a lot of digital items from the collection of the International Institute of Social History to the ANC: almost 2000 scans and digital copies of photographs, posters, buttons, videos and audio materials on the various ANC projects and activities in its exile years (mainly 1970s and 1980s). These digital items will be included in the ANC archives website in the coming months.

A|t the same time a shipment with double items from the collections of the IISH arrived in the offices of the South African History Archive (SAHA) in downtown Johannesburg. Part of these books, periodicals, posters, et cetera will remain at SAHA, but most of them will be distributed by SAHA to other documentation centres in South Africa .
