Comparing the Copperbelt is an ERC-funded research project, running at the University of Oxford from 2016-2021. The project aims to examine the Copperbelt (in both Zambia and the DR Congo) as a single region divided by a (post-)colonial border, across which flowed minerals, people and ideas. It analyses how academic knowledge production (e.g. by the Rhodes-Livingstone Institute and CEPSI) shaped understanding of Copperbelt societies and it seeks ways to explore Copperbelt political culture and popular perceptions from a historical perspective.

Candidates will work in the Research Group "The Concept of Slavery in African History". This Research Group is an integral part of the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS). The BCDSS was awarded the status of "Cluster of Excellence: Beyond Slavery and Freedom. Asymmetric Dependencies in pre-modern Societies" by the German Research Council.

The digital humanities offer a particularly rich research field of studies for data processing, apart from those of the hard sciences and the social sciences. Indeed, the humanities are rarely subject to privacy principles (privacy by design, GDPR…) that affect most social science works and are not just about digital or binary data. Moreover, in DH the data pre-exist and are most often already known if they are not collected and formalized.

The question of delinquency, in the most general sense of the term, is particularly complex because criminologists, sociologists, psychologists, psychoanalysts, doctors, lawyers, and historians who have studied this subject extensively have often expressed very different and even contradictory opinions. Difficulties arise as soon as the phenomenon is to be defined. In French law, the word “delinquency” designates all types of offenses.

The purpose of this call for papers of the Journal “Dve domovini/Two Homelands” is to critically analyze the relationship between Coronavirus and migration, with a particular attention to institutional discrimination, new inequalities, racism, but also to the forms of resistance put in place by migrants for the respect of their rights, their dignity, their health.

Parcours, pratiques et rôles en Amérique latine. Dans ce groupe de travail, nous nous intéresserons aux femmes politiques amérindiennes, à leurs parcours, à leurs positions, à leurs discours et à leurs pratiques. Plus particulièrement, nous nous interrogerons sur la place et le rôle des femmes amérindiennes dans la scène politique actuelle.

It is from the 1960's on that Walter Benjamin's work reaches an ever growing reception in the scope of Critical Theory, Art and Literary Criticism, as well as in the field of Media Studies, Theory of History and of Experience, Philosophy of Language, among others.

The international network Humanities for Change, in accordance with the interdisciplinary spirit and the contaminatory approach that characterize its activities, intends to organize a day of study on the theme of public humanities. The meeting aims to stimulate some reflections coming from different fields of knowledge and to encourage the dialogue between researchers on the possibilities of the humanities to escape from academic circles.

Des politiques sociales considérées par leurs promoteurs et promotrices comme susceptibles de contrecarrer les inégalités de genre ont été développées et expérimentées dans les dernières années en Europe, à l’instar des mesures de soutien pour les victimes de violences sexuelles et conjugales, du développement des structures d’accueil extrafamilial ou encore de la formation et de l’insertion en emploi des jeunes filles et des femmes chômeuses et migrantes, notamment.

World History Connected is a 14-year-old affiliate of the World History Association published by the University of Illinois Press. It is currently seeking papers for a special issue on new research and also exciting scholarship of teaching on topics germane to the interdisciplinary field of Empires and World History, which embraces, but is not limited to, trans-regional, comparative, gender, and, global studies. Submissions should be received by November 1 for possible publication in the February issue of 2021. Submissions on other topics are also welcome at any time.
