INSURGENCY AND RESISTANCE
The Program Committee of the North American Labor History Conference invites proposals for sessions, papers, and roundtables on “Insurgency and Resistance” for our thirty-fourth annual meeting.
Please find below the program of the Sixth Low Countries Conference.
The conference, taking place in Antwerp on 1-2 December 2011, is organizedannually by the Posthumus Research Program Economy and society of thepre-industrial Low Countries in comparative perspective, and focuses thisyear on the broad theme of Rich and poor in the pre-industrial world.
Note that while attendance is free of charge, we do ask you to register forthe conference before 18 November via mail to jord.hanus [at] ua.ac.be.

On November 11th and 12th, the Institute for Historical Studies at the University of Texas at Austin will host "Sexuality and Slavery: Exposing the History of Enslaved People," a conference convened by Daina Ramey Berry and Leslie Harris. Leading scholars of slavery in the Americas will explore consensual sexual intimacy and expression within slave communities, as well as sexual relationships across lines of race, status and power. The use of sexuality as a tool of control, exploitation and repression, but also as an expression of autonomy, resistance and defiance will be addressed.
